RULES

Missouri High School rules will apply unless the rules below specify otherwise.

  1. A team will consist of no more than 9 players but not fewer than 5 players.  A team must have at least 5 players to constitute a legal game. There is no penalty for playing with 5 players. Every player will play in 2 out of 3 games in 4th & 5th.   All other Divisions may substitute. (At the coaches discretion).

  2. Each team will play 8-9 sets (3 games to make a set), and we will use rally scoring.  We will play 3 matches (games).  The first two games will be to 25 points starting at 4 with a 27 point cap.  The third game will be to 15 starting at 0 with a 17 point cap.  Each time the ball is served, someone scores a point. Substitution is allowed in 6th grade and up.

  3. Player may serve underhand, overhand, or side armed.  No serving with the fist. The  4/5th grade-8-10 inside serving line. 6th grade division will serve 3’ off the service line and all other divisions will serve off the service line.

  4. No blocking or attacking the serve.  You may set the serve with a clean set.

  5. It is a foot fault, if the server steps on or over the serving line (we do not stress this in 4/5thth grade). There can be only one drop per service rotation.  One drop is allowed each time the server goes to the end line.

  6. The 10 foot spike rule is in effect. You cannot attack the ball in front of the 10’ line.

  7. An unintentional hit with any part of the body is considered a legal hit.
